Design Festa at Tokyo Harajuku
Design Festa Gallery will be holding Creative Live! from Jan. 23-29. The event will feature art, music, workshops and live graffiti shows both inside and out. Design Festa Gallery, hidden in a back alley of Tokyo’s Harajuku district, has become a mecca for aspiring young artists in Japan. The building itself is an old apartment complex renovated to provide exhibition spaces. The gallery provides affordable spaces ranging from a 1 1/2-sq. meter-bathroom to a larger tatami room. Artist applications are still being accepted.

Major department stores across the Japan began business in 2010 on Saturday, with “lucky bags” at low prices gaining in popularity as consumers seek out bargains among the economic downturn.

Mitsukoshi Ltd. ’s flagship store in Tokyo Nihonbashi district in Chuo Ward is at 9.45 clock, 15 minutes earlier than scheduled, as were about 8,000 people lined up in front of the store.
The Mitsukoshi store, said she prepared a total of 50,000 lucky bags. Among them, the bags were sold for 10,500 yen, were particularly popular. Each bag contains a down coat, a sweater and other items, and most of the 1,200 bags sold out in the morning, said Mitsukoshi.
“I’m usually cautious money, are so inexpensive grab bag with products that are in good quality, helpful,” said a 50-year-old housewife who was shopping at the store.
Save to Takashimaya Co. ’s flagship Nihonbashi, some customers lined up before dawn and rushed to the lucky bags on the floor to buy food after the store opened.
